It is therefore important to explore, discuss and critically engage with our mode of cultural existence. Meanwhile, the greater public seems to believe more and more in architecture and its manifestations. These have all led us to face the reality of a diminishing of the role of architects and architectural discourse. Technological advances positioned to serve society are largely overlooked in a crisis of ideas and a mentality obsessed with appearance rather than essence. ‘Everywhere we remain unfree and chained to technology, whether we passionately affirm or deny it, but we are delivered over to it in the worst possible way when we regard it as something neutral.’Ĭontrasted with the past century, the third aspirant revolution in energy and communication finds itself struggling against apathy, and a lack of desire, passion, interest and even identity. Overarching theme: Digital submission or Architectural Domination? This was then elaborated in the evenings of the 23rd, 24th and 25th of May 2018. The overarching theme proposed by Matteo Cainer was Digital submission or Architectural Domination. Matteo Cainer was invited by Robert White and the Dark Side Club to take the ‘reins of the detail of the debate and curatorial direction’ for the 7th Edition of the Dark Side Club during the vernissage days of the 16th International Architecture Biennale in Venezia.
